A carro carpa is a compact trailer with a rigid or soft tent that folds out over the frame to form a raised sleeping cabin. A popular budget alternative to a motorhome or casilla rodante in Chile and Argentina.
Mass 400–900 kg; no special licence in most LatAm countries. Local brands: Aventureros Chile, Carro Carpa Chile. Setup with a crank takes 3–5 minutes. Some models add an outdoor kitchen, side awning, and portable shower. Not the same as carpa de techo, which is mounted on the vehicle itself.
