Aparcamento autocaravana — motorhome parking in Portugal

Aparcamento (estacionamento) de autocaravana is the act of parking a motorhome on a legal Portuguese parking space without setting up any camping equipment outside the vehicle. Plain parking follows the same rules as for other vehicles; overnighting (pernoita) is a separate legal concept governed by Art. 50.º-A of the Código da Estrada.

Key rules: obey local signage (a crossed-out motorhome silhouette means prohibited), keep all wheels on the ground, and stay within the bay. In tourist zones (Costa Vicentina, Algarve, Lisboa, Porto) municipalities impose additional restrictions. The Código da Estrada distinguishes three concepts: estacionar (parking — road-code rules apply), pernoitar in an autocaravana (overnight stay — Art. 50.º-A regime), and acampar (camping — only at authorised parques de campismo).
