Tokachi Camping Car Life FES 2026

Tokachi Camping Car Life FES 2026 is eastern Hokkaido's largest gathering of camping cars (motorhomes), held at the South Event Plaza of the Obihiro Racecourse (Banei Tokachi). Multiple Japanese RV dealers exhibit a wide range of vehicles, from lightweight kei-campers to the latest European and American models, giving visitors across the Tokachi region a rare chance to compare many camping cars in one place. Admission is free.

Beyond the vehicle displays, the event has a disaster-preparedness theme, featuring panel exhibits on how camping cars can serve in emergencies, organized with Obihiro City's Crisis Management Division. The festival is tied to Banei Tokachi's draft-horse racing, and a commemorative sponsored race, the Tokachi Camping Car Cup, is run during the weekend.

Japan introduces trailer hotels and shelters for disaster evacuation

In Aomori Prefecture, trailer-type structures are being deployed as mobile shelters and temporary accommodation during emergencies. The town of Nakadomari opened a trailer hotel 'Yurapaku Cabin', which serves as a hotel in normal times and converts into an evacuation center during disasters. In Hachinohe city, a private company built a trailer shelter specifically for pet evacuation, including a dog run. Both units can be towed by truck, offering mobility after a disaster.
