Swinney: 'What we needed a camper van for is beyond me'
Scottish First Minister John Swinney said he could not understand why the SNP needed a motorhome. The statement came during a press conference on May 25, 2026, after former SNP CEO Peter Murrell pleaded guilty to embezzling over £400,000 in party funds. Among the illicitly purchased items was a luxury Niesmann+Bischoff motorhome bought for £124,550 in late 2020. The motorhome has been in a police compound since April 2023. Swinney contrasted this with hiring a bus for the election campaign, which he called a sensible use of resources.
