RVIA Confirms MY 2028 as Effective Date for GMI Enforcement

The RV Industry Association (RVIA) board voted unanimously to set Jan. 1, 2027, as the effective date for requiring grounding monitor interrupters (GMI) on all new RVs, with mandatory enforcement starting with each manufacturer's model year 2028. The GMI checks for proper ground before allowing current into the RV and disconnects power if ground is lost. The requirement was previously delayed due to a lack of listed GMIs.
