Chinese companies unveil hybrid campers based on Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Vito

The All in CARAVANING (AIC) exhibition, one of Asia's largest caravanning and camping events, was held in Beijing last month. Around 200 brands showcased motorhomes, caravans, campervans and accessories across 30,000 square metres. Organisers cited growing domestic tourism and infrastructure improvements as key drivers. Chinese manufacturers are increasingly influential in the global supply chain, particularly in battery technology and vehicle electrification.

In Zhanyi district (Qujing, Yunnan province), infrastructure for motorhomes has been created, including free parking zones, water supply, and toilets. Authorities have set up 'cool stations' with coordinators to handle daily issues. This is part of a strategy to attract motorhome travelers during the summer season.

Melbourne-based power solutions provider Arizon Off-Grid has opened manufacturing facilities in China to meet rising demand from caravan and RV manufacturers. The new sites include a lithium battery factory and a production hub for power control systems.

Zhongwei Chengxin and Hubei Wuhuan Special Vehicle have filed applications for certification of fully electric campers under the 408th batch of China's MIIT. The models differ in power, dimensions, and equipment.

Jiangxi Juntian Machinery has submitted a new motorhome model JKF5030XLJD23A for public disclosure under China's MIIT batch 408. The vehicle features a 3.0-liter gasoline engine producing 265 kW, a pop-up roof, and is designed for two occupants. With a length of 5.2 m and height of 2.004 m, it fits into underground parking garages and includes sleeping, cooking, and toilet facilities. Sales are expected to begin in Q3 2026.

BAIC Foton and Tangshan Yate Special Vehicle have filed applications for plug-in hybrid RVs with extended range under the 408th catalogue of China's MIIT. Both models qualify for blue license plates and C1 driving license.
