Weight-distributing hitch
WDH, weight distribution hitch, equalizer hitch, load-leveling hitch, anti-sway hitch, sway control hitch
A weight-distributing hitch is a system of spring bars and brackets that transfers part of the trailer's tongue weight from the rear of the tow vehicle to its front axle and the trailer's axles. The result is a level rig with restored steering feel and braking performance.
Common in the US for travel trailers above ~5,000 lb (≈2,300 kg) gross. Components: shank, spring bars (torsion or trunnion), and brackets that chain to the trailer A-frame. Frequently combined with sway control (friction-pad or built-in cam). Popular models: Equal-i-zer, Reese Strait-Line, Andersen No-Sway, Husky Centerline. Rarely used in Europe due to lower trailer weights and inertia braking.
