Water ingress

Vehicle Types

Water ingress, body leaks, RV leaks, motorhome roof leak, caravan damp, moisture intrusion, water leak motorhome

Water ingress is the entry of moisture from outside into the walls, floor, or ceiling of a motorhome or caravan habitation area through worn sealants, damaged seams, cracked windows, or roof-light mountings. It is the biggest single cause of value loss: even a small chronic leak rots the timber frame and delaminates the walls in 2–3 seasons.

Top three sources: perimeter roof seams and cantrails, window frames, and roof-light (skylight) mountings. Signs: musty smell, soft walls when pressed, water marks in lower cupboards, peeling wallpaper at floor level. Early fix: re-bed with Sikaflex 221/512, replace cover strips. Advanced damage means rebuilding the wall and replacing the frame, $3,000–15,000. Run a damp test annually as part of a habitation check.
