Fossa TEVAP — Brazilian evapotranspiration septic
Fossa TEVAP, evapotranspiration septic Brazil, ecological septic motorhome Brazil, fossa de bananeira, banana septic Brazil
Fossa TEVAP (Tanque de Evapotranspiração) is a Brazilian ecological septic system used at eco-camps, off-grid sites, and private motorhome infrastructure. It treats black water through biological filtering plus evapotranspiration via banana plants and papyrus.
Construction: a sealed pit with buried tyres, gravel, and sand; bananas (Musa) and helicônia planted on top. Black water enters, gets filtered, and evaporates through the plants in a closed loop with no discharge. Throughput: about 50 L/day per mature banana plant. Build cost BRL 1,500–4,000. Reference: Cartilha Permacultura Ipoema. Different from a cassette toilet or a conventional septic.
