Calorifier

Water System United Kingdom Europe

Calorifier, motorhome water heater, hot water cylinder, RV water heater, Truma boiler, caravan boiler, hot water tank

A calorifier is the UK term for the storage water heater fitted to a motorhome or caravan. The 6–20-litre cylinder is heated either by a gas burner (as part of a Truma Combi), a 230 V immersion element, or engine coolant. On the continent it is usually called a water heater or boiler.

Typical capacities: 10 L in a campervan, 14 L in a semi-integrated motorhome, 16–20 L in a premium liner. Heating from 10 to 60 °C: 30–35 minutes on gas; 45–90 minutes on a 230 V/300–1,800 W element. The Truma Combi combines blown-air heating with the calorifier. Always drain via the frost-control valve before freezing temperatures — ice will burst the cylinder. Sanitize once a year against legionella.
