Caravan sales increase at Salop Leisure

Yorkshire Caravans & Motorhomes, founded in 1926, has been sold to local entrepreneur Jason Cooper. The business, operating from a 35-acre site, claims to be the UK's oldest and largest independent retailer of caravans and motorhomes with revenues exceeding £50m.

A caravan was completely destroyed by a fire in Chorley on April 6. Firefighters arrived around 2 p.m., extinguished the blaze over two hours, and issued a warning about outdoor equipment safety.

Social media romanticizes van dwelling, but for a growing number of people in the UK, it is a last resort due to high housing costs. Colleagues and customers have expressed condolences following the death of James Hodds, the frontman of campervan conversion company Waveney Campers. He passed away on February 18 at the age of 43. A post announcing his death on the company's Facebook page received 250 comments.

A campaign for designated stopover areas warns that bans on overnight parking for motorhomes and campervans in popular areas are deterring tourists. North Yorkshire authorities have made permanent a trial ban on parking along part of the coast from 11pm to 7am, introduced in 2024 following complaints about anti-social behaviour. Campaigners call for more official 'aires' instead of outright restrictions.
