Regulation of RV living
Amid the housing crisis, the Regional District of Nanaimo is again discussing regulations for year-round RV living. Staff recommendations include lifting a temporary moratorium on rule enforcement and developing a rural housing policy and rules for temporary occupancy permits. The permit costs $800 and is valid for up to three years. While provincial building codes prohibit using RVs as permanent residences, the growing number of people adopting this lifestyle due to the affordable housing crisis is prompting authorities to reconsider their approach.
