Frontcountry camping — drive-up Canadian camping
Frontcountry camping, car camping Canada, drive-in camping, established campground camping, vehicle-accessible camping Canada
Frontcountry camping is the Parks Canada term for camping at an established, vehicle-accessible campground with services (tap water, washrooms, fire pits, ranger contact). It contrasts with backcountry camping, which requires hiking, paddling, or biking in.
Most family and motorhome trips fall under frontcountry camping. Examples: Tunnel Mountain in Banff, Lake of Two Rivers in Algonquin, Wapizagonke in La Mauricie. Reservations open 4 months ahead through Parks Canada (parks.canada.ca/reservation). Fees vary by park, province and service level.
