A DC-DC charger (battery-to-battery charger) is a device that takes power from the vehicle's alternator (via the starter battery) and steps it up to the correct voltage to efficiently charge the leisure battery while driving.

DC-DC chargers are essential for LiFePO4 batteries, which simple split-charge relays cannot charge correctly. They also protect the starter battery from being drained. Popular models include the Victron Orion-Tr Smart and Sterling B2B.
