Awning rail

Layout & Interior

Awning rail, awning channel, Kederschiene, awning mounting rail, motorhome awning rail, canopy rail, caravan awning rail

An awning rail is an aluminium profile fitted along the roof or side of a motorhome or caravan into which the awning beading (kader/canopy edge cord) is slid. The standard slot is 5–7 mm. It allows an awning or sun-canopy to be installed and removed in minutes without drilling extra holes.

Two types: main awning rail (on the roof, for the primary awning) and sub-awning rail (lower down, used to peg out an awning skirt or attach an inflatable annexe). European motorhomes ship with one or two factory-mounted rails. The seal between rail and body is a known water-ingress point — always checked at the habitation check. For winter use, look for a Kederschiene with a separate drainage channel.
