Dogbone adapter

Electrical USA Canada

Dogbone adapter, RV power adapter, 30A to 50A adapter, 50A to 30A adapter, 30A to 15A adapter, shore power dogbone

A dogbone adapter is a short power adapter that lets an RV connect to a campground or household outlet of a different amperage or plug type: NEMA 14-50 (50 A) ↔ NEMA TT-30 (30 A), 30 A ↔ NEMA 5-15 (household), and so on. The name comes from the dumbbell shape with chunky connectors on each end.

Common US combinations: 50 A male → 30 A female (a 50 A RV plugged into a 30 A pedestal — only one leg powered, but it works), 30 A male → 15 A female (for a wall outlet), 30 A male → 50 A female (the reverse, still capped at 30 A). Intended for short-term use only — daisy-chaining adapters or extending long runs is risky. European equivalents are CEE 16 A ↔ 32 A or CEE ↔ Schuko adapters.
