North Yorkshire Campervan Ban Could Shift Tourism Spend

North Yorkshire Council plans to make permanent a trial ban on overnight parking for motorhomes in coastal tourist areas. The ban, introduced in November 2024, applies to North Bay in Scarborough and the A174 road. The decision is justified by complaints from residents about litter, antisocial behavior, and parking space issues.

North Yorkshire Council will consider making permanent an experimental ban on overnight motorhome parking in Scarborough and Sandsend. The trial prohibition was introduced in November 2024 from 11pm to 7am due to anti-social behaviour and safety concerns. A public consultation received over 3,000 responses, with most motorhome owners objecting but local councillors supporting the restrictions.

The A66 in County Durham and Cumbria is closed to high-sided vehicles due to strong winds. The ban applies to motorhomes, campervans, HGVs, buses, and vehicles towing trailers. Drivers are advised to use the alternative A69 route and allow extra journey time.

Police closed a key route into Lytham after a disconnected caravan collided with a parked vehicle and mounted the pavement. Traffic was stopped on Blackpool Road, with motorists advised to seek alternative routes. The incident was confirmed as a damage-only road traffic collision, and roads have since reopened.

Herefordshire Council refused planning permission for a caravan park with 32 static pitches and 16 touring pitches. The refusal was based on potential impact on the protected River Teme, not on local objections regarding road safety. The applicant is considering a planning appeal and pursuing costs against the council.

Several caravans and motorhomes parked overnight at the River Park pay-and-display car park in Winchester on March 23. The car park is operated by the city council, and similar incidents have occurred previously at other car parks in the city.
