Camping in Europe gets more expensive: Croatia becomes the priciest destination

According to data from PiNCAMP and ACSI, the average cost per night for a family of two with a caravan in Croatia has reached €78.28, the highest in Europe. Since 2020, camping prices across Europe have risen by an average of 24.7%, with Croatia seeing an annual increase of about 12%. Key drivers include investments in facilities, the adoption of the euro, and high demand. Turkey remains the cheapest option at an average of €13.57 per night.

Camping project in Bergern rejected

A plan to build a campsite with around 50 pitches in Bergern, Austria, has been rejected by the local council. Seven council members voted against initiating the zoning procedure, with two abstentions. The project's initiator, innkeeper Alfons Baldinger, expressed disappointment, noting the campsite was intended as a project for his son. Earlier, residents had raised concerns about noise and increased traffic.

Motorhome loses wheel on A 39 near Baddeckenstedt, wheel hits oncoming traffic

On Monday morning, a motorhome driven by a 58-year-old woman lost a wheel on the A 39 near Baddeckenstedt. First 'Moon Camper' comes from Italy

Thales Alenia Space Italia, in cooperation with the Italian Space Agency (ASI), is developing the Multi-Purpose Habilitation Module (MPH) for the Moon. The module is 6 meters long, 3 meters in diameter, weighs about 15 tons, and includes sleeping quarters, a kitchen, a toilet, a laboratory, and life support systems. It will be launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center and will be mobile on the lunar surface via wheels. Launch is planned for 2033 as part of the Artemis program.

Winterthur voters reject camping renovation, AL launches new initiative

In a referendum, 53% of Winterthur residents voted against renovating the Schützenweiher campsite. The city council sees no legal path to allow permanent camping there. In response, the Alternative List (AL) party, together with campsite residents, launched an initiative demanding a new camping project with at least one-third of the area designated for alternative housing.

TCS tests motorhome rest areas in France, Spain and Portugal

In spring 2026, the Touring Club Schweiz (TCS) evaluated 129 highway rest areas in France, Spain, and Portugal. In France, 86% of the 52 tested sites received 4 or 5 stars; in Spain, only one of 60 reached 4 stars, and nine of the ten lowest-rated sites were in Spain. In Portugal, 11 of 17 sites were rated as recommendable. The test found non-functional charging points at several Spanish locations.

Barmstedt duo wins state round of ADAC Camper des Jahres 2026

Andreas Jeß and Renzo Maffini from Barmstedt won the state qualifying round of the ADAC Camper des Jahres 2026 in Schleswig-Holstein. The competition took place in Boksee at the ADAC driving safety facility, where the duo outperformed eight other teams. A particularly challenging task involved reversing with covered mirrors. They will compete in the federal final in Düsseldorf in late August to early September.
