Hungary has changed its toll payment rules for motorhomes weighing over 3.5 tonnes. From this year, they have switched from a per-kilometre payment system using a GPS device to the standard electronic vignette system, which can be purchased online. The rules for lighter motorhomes and other vehicles remain unchanged.

As of January 1, 2026, Hungary has changed its road toll rules for motorhomes. Vehicles with a maximum authorized mass over 3500 kg have been moved from the truck category to the D2 category, eliminating the need for complex on-board units. They now only require an e-vignette, purchased online, similar to lighter motorhomes.

From January 1, 2026, the toll payment system for motorhomes will change in Hungary. All motorhomes, regardless of weight, must purchase an electronic vignette (e-matrica) to use the toll road network. The toll category (D1 or D2) is determined by the maximum permissible mass and the number of passenger seats as stated in the vehicle's registration documents.

Starting January 2026, Hungary will abolish the HU-GO toll system for motorhomes and caravans. It will be replaced by a simplified vignette system. An annual vignette for vehicles up to 3.5 tons will cost 160 euros.

A change in Hungarian law will require all motorhomes to use the e-matrica electronic toll system for the country's fee-based road network from January 1, 2026. The new rule eliminates previous payment methods for vehicles over 3.5 tons, such as using an onboard unit or purchasing a point-to-point ticket. The applicable toll category (D1 or D2) is determined by the vehicle's weight and the number of passenger seats listed in its registration document.
