Three Compact Camping Innovations: From Micro Motorhome to Lightweight Caravan

German schlager singer Ramon Roselly revealed on the TV show 'Immer wieder sonntags' that he grew up in a small caravan as part of a family circus. He described living hand-to-mouth with his parents and five sisters in cramped conditions. Despite the hardships, Roselly credited the experience for forging a strong family bond.

DEKRA, the expert organization, recommends a thorough technical inspection of motorhomes and caravans after winter storage. Key checks include brakes, electrics, tires, and gas systems. Since June 2025, a biennial G607 gas inspection is mandatory. Proper loading and route planning are also emphasized.

The municipality of Amt Neuhaus (Germany) is considering a project to create a new motorhome parking area in the Stapel district. The site, previously used as a sports field and kindergarten, could accommodate 15–20 motorhomes and possibly a few tiny houses. Project initiator Thomas Frank presented the concept to the local tourism committee. Funding may come through the Leader program, requiring the municipality to determine its own contribution.

German manufacturer Carado introduced the V347 profile with an innovative Clever-Lift bed that folds against the side wall, not the ceiling. The 6.98 m long, 2.14 m wide model features twin rear beds, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Base price is €57,990, Clever-Lift option is €805. Average fuel consumption was 9.3 L/100 km.

The University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) has introduced a converted motorhome for blood collection. The mobile unit will visit companies, schools, and other organizations. The project cost around 140,000 euros, with more than half covered by the UKSH support foundation. It features four donation beds and can collect up to 60 blood donations within four hours.

On June 6, 2026, a motorhome from Munich lost control on the A8 highway in Bavaria after a tire blowout, overturned, and blocked the road. Three occupants sustained minor injuries; damage is estimated at €30,000. During the full closure, several drivers turned around and drove the wrong way through the emergency lane. Police stopped them and initiated proceedings, with penalties including fines, points, and driving bans.
